The Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, Ռամկավար Ազատական Կուսակցութիւն - ADLP - RAG is the product of Armenian nation in the diaspora. It is the authentic expression of the desire to survive and prosper. The emblem, in the form of a shield, has a peel representing farming, a compass symbolizing industry and a goose feather signifying intelligence. The force which results from such a union is represented by a bundle located towards the center of the sign from which a hatchet is surpassed. To the left, on the top and to the right of the sign respectively are engraved the initials in Armenian letters: R.A.G. (Ramgavar Azadagan Gousagtsoutioun), which stands for Armenian Democratic Liberal Party. The objective of the ADLP is to preserve and promote the historic, cultural and religious heritage of the Armenian people. It safeguards the Armenian national entity and promotes economic progress in the Diaspora while applying the principles of Liberal Democracy in its public life.
The inclusion of an Armenian checkbox in the 2030 Census is a proposal that aims to improve the accuracy and completeness of data on the Armenian American population in the United States. According to the resolution submitted by Supervisors Barger and Solis, this proposal would help address the challenges and needs of this community, such as health disparities, language barriers, cultural preservation and economic development. The resolution also states that the City of Glendale, which has the largest concentration of Armenian Americans in the country, supports this proposal and urges the U.S. Census Bureau to consider it as part of its planning for the next census. The U.S. Census Bureau has invited the public to share their input and ideas for an improved 2030 Census through a Federal Register Notice published on August 17, 2022. The notice outlines several topics for feedback, such as reaching and motivating everyone to respond, using technology to enhance user experience and data collection, leveraging new data sources to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness, tailoring contact strategies to encourage self-response and providing respondent support in different languages and formats.
On April 24, we join the Armenian community in California and around the world to commemorate the Armenian Genocide, one of the darkest chapters in human history. More than a century ago, the Ottoman Empire systematically and brutally killed 1.5 million Armenians and displaced millions more. The survivors of this horrific atrocity sought refuge across the globe, including in California, where they have enriched our state with their culture, heritage and contributions.
As we honor the memory of those who perished and stand in solidarity with their descendants, we also reaffirm our commitment to prevent such atrocities from ever happening again. We recognize the courage and resilience of the Armenian people, who have overcome tremendous suffering and hardship to rebuild their lives and communities. We celebrate their achievements and contributions to our society, and we pledge to work together for a more peaceful and just world.
NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim April 24, 2023 as “A Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide”.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 22nd day of April 2023.
